Supporting families from pregnancy to five, the Montessori way
Thirty years with children. Twenty-two of them spent running a Montessori nursery. Now, poured into books built for parents who don't have a spare hour to read them.
Every guide in this library exists because of a question I heard, in one form or another, most days for three decades: is this normal, and what do I actually do about it?
I spent thirty years working directly with children before I ever wrote a word of these guides — first as a teacher, then as the owner of a Montessori nursery for twenty-two of those years. In that time I sat with thousands of mornings: the drop-offs, the tantrums in the cloakroom, the quiet triumph of a child tying their own shoelace for the first time. I watched what genuinely helped a child settle, focus, and grow — and, just as often, what well-meaning advice got wrong.
Twenty-two years as the owner of a Montessori nursery.
One conviction that hasn't changed: children thrive with calm, consistent, respectful guidance — and so do the parents raising them.
Parents would ask me the same handful of questions, over and over, at pickup, in the car park, in hurried five-minute conversations before the next family arrived. They wanted what I'd learned in the classroom, but they wanted it fast — in a form that fit into a life with no spare hour, let alone a spare afternoon.
That's the entire reason Early Years Studio exists. Each guide takes what I'd otherwise explain slowly, over years, in a nursery setting, and sets it out simply: short chapters, clear language, a checklist at the end you can actually use. Nothing here needs a quiet weekend to get through. It's built to be picked up at 11pm with a sleeping baby on one arm, and to still make sense.
The Montessori approach shaped everything I did in the classroom, and it shapes every guide I write now — not as a rigid method to follow perfectly, but as a steady way of seeing your child: capable, curious, and worth trusting a little more than you might expect.
What thirty years actually taught me
Consistency does more than any single technique
The parents I watched succeed weren't the ones with the perfect method — they were the ones who picked something reasonable and held it steadily. That's the backbone of every guide here.
Comparison rarely helps a child or a parent
Every child in my nursery reached the same milestones on a different timeline. I stopped comparing decades ago, and it's the single biggest relief I can offer families now.
Real advice fits into a real, tired life
Anything too long, too academic, or too precious to actually use in the middle of a hard week gets left on the shelf. So it doesn't get written that way.
Everything I learned, organised by stage
From pregnancy through starting school — the same calm, practical guidance I gave in the nursery, now in a guide you can read tonight.
